Contrary to popular belief, the name of our company is Svea — not S.V.E.A. In 1865, Swedish settlers on the Illinois prairie formed an organization built on cooperation, trust, and friendship, where each member paid their fair share of the year’s losses from fire and lightning. The lightning bolt in our logo reminds us of our beginnings.
A century and a half later, Svea Mutual is one of the largest farm mutual companies in the state of Illinois — still member-owned, still headquartered in Orion.
